First Steps
by Kevin C · Wednesday, January 30, 2008

Yesterday we took our first step in reaching out to the local community here with the Gospel. We both saw that this county has a large young adult population who are almost entirely unchurched. We realized that these people work hard and then they go to the bars. So, in order to reach them, we have to go to where they are at. With that said, we've decided to start going to a local bar to build relationships and hopefully tell people there about Jesus.

The bar we chose is in the county seat some fifteen minutes away. It has a small diner attached, so yesterday morning we had breakfast there. We spent the time praying over the place and talking with our waitress about things they have going on at the bar. We decided that this would make a great weekly event - our own prayer breakfast. Hopefully, in the next week or two we'll take the big risk and start going out to the bar itself. Please be praying for us.

Yes Kevin! Many Christians evangelize to their friends in a close context. Some do it from far away on TV or a mass evangelism event. We invite non-Christians to be our guests, which is wonderful, but we rarely go to be their guests, as Jesus did, who stayed at Zacchaeus' house and ate dinner at Matthew's while he was still a tax collector.

Matthew 9:11-12
When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"
On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick."

As always, Kevin and Kathy, you will be in my prayers. May God grant you the courage and patience you need, and His will be done.
